Rau Daycare Center

The Rau Daycare Center, located in Rau Village, Moshi, offers a safe and loving environment for children from families in need.

The daycare operates under the supportive program of Sama Aurinko ry (also known as Same Sun NGO), a Finnish nonprofit organization. In Tanzania, the center is managed and supervised by our company, Tanzania Volunteers Limited. Rau Daycare Center offers free daycare services, providing two meals daily and educational support to help children grow healthy and happy. The center is staffed by dedicated local teachers and is supported by volunteers and donations.

The primary goal of Rau Daycare Center is to provide a safe and caring environment for children selected each year from the very poorest homes. By offering free education and meals, the center also enables parents to find employment and support their families.

Founded in 2009, Rau Daycare Center currently has four dedicated staff members: Jacklin Athumani and Loveless are the early education teachers.  Lightness Benedict and Rebeca Emanuel are preparing the children’s meals and doing the cleaning. The centre can accommodate approximately 33 children, aged 3 to 6 years.

A day at Rau Daycare Center begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends around 3:00 p.m. Children learn letters, numbers, English, and play games and music in their free time. Older children focus on structured learning, while younger ones enjoy playing music, singing, and dancing.
Donated toys have been extremely helpful in supporting the children’s development.

Despite facing poverty, the children remain joyful and positive. Guests are always greeted with warm hugs and laughter, reflecting the welcoming and loving atmosphere of Rau Daycare Center.

This placement welcomes all volunteers, whether they have previous experience or not. It is also an excellent placement for interns training to become teachers of young children.
