Tanzania Volunteers is proud to be one of the six partners on Kilimanjaro VET an Erasmus+ capacity-building project funded by the European Union.
Our role in this project is to facilitate internationalization and networking, ensuring a smooth experience and good cooperation between the partners.
On the Tanzania side, VETA- (Mawella VTC and Moshi RVTSC) has provided valuable support through the application process.
In late 2022, VETA (including Mawella VTC and Moshi RVTSC), ELCT, and TVL successfully joined the project.
In December 2023, Tanzania Volunteers managed the logistical arrangements for the arrival of European partners for the project’s kick-off week. We also arranged local media coverage to raise awareness about the project within our community. Additionally, we facilitated the smooth purchase and distribution of mobile phones and printers to selected project members.
Throughout the project, Tanzania Volunteers has been actively involved in various activities, including:
- Equipment distribution: Ensuring the clearance, and distribution of laptops to project members.
- Travel arrangements: Organizing necessary travel documents, flight ticket purchases, traveling insurance, vaccinations required instructions, Schengen Visa online application forms, Visa appointment, and Guidance for VISA acquiring in Dar es Salaam.
- Cultural Orientation and Europe trip preparations: Providing information about European culture and customs. Going through in detail about weather, food, and what to take and not to take with you while traveling to Europe.
September Trip to Europe.
On the 7th of September 2024, we were ready for the Europe trip. A Media group arranged by TVL was at the airport reporting on our traveling.
Our trip began, with a few challenges on our Way to Oulu. Already on check-in counters at Kilimanjaro airport a few travelers were not seen on the traveler’s list (it was a shocking moment) but finally we all managed to fly.
At Doha Airport, just on arrival one of our group member had lost her passport, but luckily the passport was found 3 hours later from the lost and found office. While wandering around with the group at the Airport, we lost one person. But managed to rejoin the group.
Our flight from Doha to Helsinki was late. Everyone was in a rush to catch the Helsinki – Oulu flight which was already waiting for us. “I felt a relief when I heard the announcement, ‘Cabin crew, everyone is on board.’ However, I didn’t know one of our group member had missed that flight already.”
When arriving at Oulu Airport we were 14 people instead of 15. Another traveler lost a mobile phone, 3rd one lost a wallet and 2 travelers’ bags did not arrive. We were confused. The missing person was not reachable on mobile phone but we believed he was stuck at Helsinki Airport.
(Arriving in Oulu with 14 people out of 15 it was not a bad number anyway :).
The missing person arrived safely 8 hours later. All missing bags were collected the next morning and all lost items were retrieved at the lost and found office at Helsinki airport 14 days later. (Thanks to Niina Nissinen & Jarno Temonen)
Green Star Hotel was like our home in Oulu. Tanzania volunteers’ daily duty was to share the following day’s timetable and inform the group about the time and plan of every program.
The group was lovely and very easy to guide. At The end of the day, we had a short meeting to reflect on our day and the coming day’s program. We discussed more about cultural issues and how things work in Europe.
The two weeks went very smoothly and everyone was filled with a lot of knowledge from all the visits we had.
Tanzania Volunteers’ involvement in this project has a positive impact on enhancing international collaboration.
All teachers gain a lot of experience from the Europe trip and all the ongoing training. We are happy we have successfully played our part in making this dream come true.
Tanzanian vocational teachers’ trip to Europe was very successful and unforgettable.
After the home return, on 14Th October 2024, TVL arranged a physical meeting for all Tanzania partners. We discussed more about how to put into action all that we have learned from this project.
Our work on the project is ongoing, and we will continue providing more updates day to day……
